Information on the credit reporting industry in general, along with data on how to possibly help your situation ...

The credit reporting industry is, in general, governed by the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) and watchdogged by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). Links to the text of the FCRA and to the consumer protection site of the FTC are available on my page on Consumer Information Links. Please note that any information on the FCRA that is prior to 10-1997 may be obsolete, due to the revamping made to the FCRA by Congress in the end of that year.

Congress has added some legislation that modifies the FCRA after the 9-11-2001 terrorist attack. These changes, however, deal mainly with investigative agencies obtaining credit reports in the pursuit of investigating terrorism and terrorists, and they do not apply to the average consumer or place of business.

The information on these web pages is accurate to the best of my knowledge, but I accept no liability for any actions undertaken as a result of this information ... it is always best to double-check any information you find on the internet.
